The Dove Hunt Lunch

Yesterday we were invited to a Dove Hunt. It was in Clarksdale, Mississippi, at one of Bill's boss's amazing homes (spectacular). There was a beautiful catered lunch (delicious) and plenty of diet coke (free). The hired staff wouldn't even let me throw my own trash away (lots of pop cans: awkward). After lunch, the men-folk went out to a club to hunt doves (birds representing peace and the Holy Ghost). The women and children hung around the beautiful pool drinking mint-julips (diet coke).

Here is Bill with his hunting friends (NRA members). Max went with him (weapons expert at age 11). Bill and Russ would shoot the birds, and Max would fetch them (not with his mouth, thank goodness). What parent wouldn't want their child in a field full of men with guns and dead birds?

Swimming. Notice Charlotte's buns in the background. I claim full responsibility.

Charlotte couldn't climb up, so the little boy tried to pull her up. He was saying, "Use all your strength!"

Bill's boss and his wife are super-nice, and they were so gracious. We had so much fun.

This house was amazing. I couldn't figure out a way to take pictures of the inside without looking like a tourist, but the pool and patio were so beautiful. This is the good life in the south.

Funny post! What an amazing place...did you go inside?
looks like a fun day. I didn't know it was even legal to hunt doves?

Of course it's legal to hunt doves. We went out on opening day of dove season on Monday, and there were swarms of doves. It was like a scene from the movie "The Birds". We went to a different field on Saturday, and the birds were few and far between.

On Sunday (the day after the lunch soiree) Mike invited us to hunt the field with the swarms of Doves, but I couldn't go because I would be "breaking the Sabbath day holy" as my kids put it. Plus, I woke up sick on Sunday and barely got through church and them came home and slept all day and all night.

I don't pose much of a threat to the dove population with my antique "Elmer Fudd" signature double barrel shotgun. I just end up with a sore shoulder and a bunch of empty shot shells to pick up at the end of the day.

Max was a natural. He sat patiently while we shot, and then he went and retrieved the doves that Russ shot (and the one dove I shot) even though max is still recovering from a tragic disabling injury of his pinky toe.

Uh! LUCKYYYY!!! You should see the places I'd have to put up with if I went on a hunting party with Steve. I think we held up in a tent once, and there was this log we ate our lunch on...
